Lolita is the most amazing book I’ve ever read. I printed out the first paragraph and put it on the front of my AP Lang folder, to remind myself of how beautiful words can be if you can just manage to arrange them right.

If two people love each other it really shouldn’t matter, which I believe is the point of the book. And he doesn’t fucking kidnap her, the whole deal is that it’s all consensual. It only messes with your head if you’ve been so conditioned by society to think that only certain people should be able to love each other that the idea of two people who don’t fit the mold of an arbitrary social construct fucks with you.

What I got from it was the interchangeable role between the victim and the culprit in the story.

It was revolutionary not simply because it was a “love” story between a 40 something year old man and a 12 year old girl, but because it questioned the traditional view that in a relationship like this, the girl is the victim and the man the predator. Both fulfilled the role of a victim, and both behaved predatorily towards each other.
